Steven Soderbergh is executive producer of the upcoming Netflix series.
Jack O’Connell, the British-born actor who’ll be seen at theaters and drive-ins everywhere this week opposite George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Money Monster, is about to earn his spurs.
O’Connell — whose other film credits include Unbroken and 300: Rise of an Empire — has signed on to star in Godless, a limited-run Netflix series set in the Wild West of 1884. Steven Soderbergh is executive producer of the drama, which will be written and directed by Scott Frank (screenwriter of Out of Sight, Minority Report and The Wolverine).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Godless centers on Frank Griffin, a notorious outlaw who’s hell-bent on tracking down Roy Goode, his surrogate son and former partner. Frank's dogged pursuit leads him to the quiet town of La Belle — which is populated entirely by women. O'Connell will star as Roy, a conscience-stricken bandit who’s on the run after turning his back on his father figure.
