Internships

C&I seeks editorial interns ready to immerse themselves in the content of the premiere magazine of the American West and our historic and growing brand. We offer internships to current college undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates in the areas of:

• Print-focused editorial
• Digital-focused editorial
• Social media-focused editorial
• Fashion-focused editorial

These internships provide ideal candidates the opportunity to work with and learn from the C&I team and enjoy real-world training. Our summer internship program offers academic credits and will run May through September, with flexible start and end dates pending school schedules.


Duties
The essential duties for internships include:

PRINT
• Fact-check articles for print
• Assist the editorial team with research, copy editing, transcribing, and image/art sourcing
• Attend editorial planning meetings and brainstorm for future issues of the magazine
• Pitch story ideas
• Write copy for smaller departments and promotional materials as needed

DIGITAL
• Catalog, scan, and upload archival issues of the magazine
• Write and help produce web stories for cowboysindians.com
• Assist with analytic reports and SEO
• Help produce and schedule sponsored content
• Compile small print departments for online production
• Attend content planning meetings

SOCIAL
• Create graphics for social media platforms
• Assist with writing, creating, and editing content across social platforms
• Schedule social media posts through Hootsuite or Sprout Social
• Engage with our community by responding to direct messages and comments and liking posts
• Update LinkTree and Soldsie account with article links
• Assist in sourcing user-generated content
• Attend content planning meetings

FASHION
• Assist with producing, styling, and organizing the Fall Fashion Shoot (June)
• Assist with producing, styling, and organizing the Holiday Gift Guide (August)
• Write and help produce fashion-focused stories for the magazine and cowboysindians.com
• Produce fashion-focused content for social media, including Pinterest and TikTok
• Attend planning meetings

Hours: 15–30 hours/week
Location: Remote. If in or near the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, local candidates might have the opportunity to attend the fashion and gift guide shoots as well as other brand events.
Requirements: No magazine experience necessary, but facility with language and various modes of communication—for print, online, and social media outlets—is a must. A voracious appetite for storytelling and Western news is also highly encouraged.
