Texas & Western Art Auction

Another landmark auction of fine fresh to the market Texas and Western artworks, sculpture, and pottery will be held at Vogt Auction on Saturday, October 16th at 1pm CST.

Masterpieces by noted artists Julian Onderdonk, José Arpa, Dawson Dawson-Watson, Porfirio Salinas, G. Harvey, Jose Vives-Atsara, Mary Bonner, William Slaughter, Robert Wood, Frank Reaugh, Charles Umlauf, and Harry Anthony DeYoung are among the highlights of the sale.

Families and estates that contributed pieces to the auction include the estate of long-time collector Lance Forbes of Houston, the estate of philanthropist Barbara 'Babs' Baugh of San Antonio, and The William and Mary Anna Hudson Estate of Houston.

Also in this event are several pieces from the personal estates of noted Texas artists Clay McGaughy and Carl Rice Embrey including outstanding paintings as well as selected sketches and studies taken directly from the artists’ home studios.

And in a first for the Texas art market, two paintings in this auction will be sold along with their corresponding NFT images (non-fungible tokens). Lots 150 and 186, both Texas landscape scenes by living Texas artist Bradley Settles, will be sold with their digital NFT, minted by the artist and recorded via blockchain ledger, with supporting documentation and file archive.

“We are very excited to continue our tradition of innovation at Vogt Auction with this new frontier of fine art sales,” said Vogt’s Fine Art Specialist Katherine Ramirez. “We think the Texas art market is ready to take this next step and we’re happy to be making it happen.”

The auction catalog can be viewed at vogtauction.com. Bidding will be live, live online through LiveAuctioneers, by telephone, or by written absentee bid. The auction will be held at Vogt Auction at 7233 Blanco Road in San Antonio.
