MUSEUM NAMES MANUEL S. FRANCO AS ARTIST OF THE MONTH

The Museum of Western Art will host its Artist of the Month reception on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. with Western Artist Manuel S. Franco. Non-museum members are invited to attend the wine and cheese reception with a suggested donation of $10; museum members, of course, attend at no charge.

Manuel Franco was born in Coyame, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. He received a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Chihuahua. After mining throughout Mexico for many years, Franco became a full-time artist focusing on the medium of watercolor.

Speaking of his art, Franco said that his “Indian/Mexican heritage gave him the intuition and skill to create unforgettable images.” He has achieved international recognition in the field of Southwestern art. His subject matter includes still lifes, wildlife and Native American scenes. During his artistic career, Franco has received many awards and recognition, but the most meaningful to him occurred in May of 1007, when his hometown of Coyame named him “their favorite son.”

The award-winning Museum of Western Art is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville. Hours are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, please call 830.896.2553
