Show Opening: Peggy Cook “A Silver Lining”

DESCRIPTION

Tiemann Art Gallery is pleased to present paintings by oil and pastel artist Peggy Cook created during the pandemic. Peggy moved from Kansas to Austin in 2019 just in time for the pandemic. Experiencing the isolation of the pandemic, she found a silver lining by focusing on her art and spending time with her young grandson Max. Welcome to Austin, Peggy!

Peggy began her formal art training over 40 years ago. She has a BFA from Wichita State University and has studied with master pastelist Ramon Kelley of Denver, Colorado. She has numerous awards and honor from shows in her home state of Kansas. She was twice selected to be in the permanent collection of the Kansas Postcard Series.

Peggy’s focus is on color: "Of all the things that have to be considered in painting, the most intriguing is color. Finding the "color solutions" is how one instructor phrased it. I use this notion as I paint. Some problems I face are: How can I enliven a predominately green landscape? Or, what color would accentuate the color I just painted? Color is very inter-relational; as one color is added to the painting, the dynamics of the paintings can change. It seems there are infinite possibilities for the artist who paints with color. Those possibilities make the process of painting exciting, and each new painting a chance to explore new territory."
