Sorrel Sky Gallery is honored to be the setting of the creation of a "Buddha of Wisdom” sand mandala by the monks of Gaden Shartse Monastery, located in southern India. The mandala is normally used during the initiation of a monk into a high form of meditation and can represent his vision of the entire universe. Often requiring between 75 and 125 hours of effort, completed by several monks at a time, the intense colors are made of powdered and dyed stone, sand, dust, flowers, and charcoal. Join us to catch a glimpse into this ancient, creative, labor-intensive and concentration-intensive empowerment ceremony.
