Travel
Flying into Billings, Montana, puts you about an hour from the Crow Fair grounds in Crow Agency. The closest hotels are in Hardin, just 15 to 20 minutes away — ideal if you’re hoping to catch the morning parades. Rooms in Hardin fill quickly during the summer, so it’s best to book well in advance.
Some attendees choose to stay in Billings and make the daily drive. If you're planning to bring a camper, there are RV park options nearby, but those sites also book up months ahead — don’t wait to reserve your spot.
Parade Planning
The morning parade is one of Crow Fair’s signature events — full of color, movement and tradition. Arrive early, as street closures make parking difficult the closer it gets to start time.
You can find the most up-to-date schedule on the Crow Fair Facebook page, which often posts announcements and timing for daily events. One traditional signal to listen for: the sound of cannon blasts. The first blast means one hour until parade time; the second signals 30 minutes. When you hear the first cannon, that’s your cue to head down toward the Arbor roads and set up your chairs.
Don’t forget essentials like sun protection, water and an umbrella. The combination of morning sun, humidity and elevation can sneak up on you — staying hydrated and shaded will help you enjoy the day comfortably.
What to Wear
Come with the expectation to walk a lot — comfortable shoes are essential. Montana weather can change quickly, so bring layers and a rain jacket in case of a summer storm. The Arbor offers some shade, but if you plan to leave your spot to check out vendors, bring a blanket to mark your space. At Crow Fair, blankets are a respectful way to hold a spot. If you see one laid out, do not move or disturb it — someone is coming back.
Food Vendors
Before committing to a meal, take a lap around the Arbor. With so many food vendors, something new might catch your eye just when you think you’ve decided.

You’ll find powwow staples like Indian tacos (often called NDN tacos), but don’t overlook crowd favorites like the chicken chow mein truck or local lemonade stands. Powwow lemonade is a tradition all its own — cold, sweet, and often sold in a rainbow of flavors. Grab a jug to sip as you walk the grounds or watch the dancing.
