The Appaloosa and Westworld star has been added to the mix of the series tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch.
Last week, we learned that multiple Academy Award nominee Annette Bening has signed on for the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off series tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch. This week, producers announced that another oft-nominated Oscar hopeful, C&I cover star Ed Harris, will be appearing in the show, which focuses on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
Finn Little also will be involved in the new Paramount+ series — now in production — as Carter, Beth and Rip’s adopted son. There’s no word yet about when the series, a continuation of producer Taylor Sheridan’s phenomenally popular Yellowstone, will premiere.
The official Paramount+ logline: “Beth Dutton (Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Hauser) are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter (Little) becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
Harris will play Everett McKinney, a character described as “a weathered veteran and veterinarian who treats animals with compassion and understanding and has a good sense of humor.”
As previously announced, Bening has been cast as Beulah Jackson, “the powerful, cunning, and charming head of a major ranch in Texas.”
A native of Englewood, New Jersey, Harris boats an impressive resume that includes The Right Stuff, the 1983 adaptation of Tom Wolf’s nonfiction best-seller, that cast him as astronaut John Glenn; Apollo 13 (1995), in which he uttered the classic line “Failure is not an option” while playing NASA chief flight director Gene Kranz; and the HBO series Westworld (2016-22), where he made an indelible impact as the relentless William, a.k.a. The Man in Black.
C&I readers likely will remember him best as star, director and co-writer of Appaloosa, the celebrated 2008 western based on the novel by Robert B. Parker, in which he and Viggo Mortensen portrayed lethally efficient freelance lawmen. Harris also received acclaim, and an Academy Award nomination as Best Actor, for Pollock, his 2000 biopic about the abstract impressionist painter.
Among Harris’ other notable film and television credits: Places in the Heart (1984), The Abyss (1989), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), The Rock (1996), Riders of the Purple Sage (1996), The Third Miracle (1999), A Beautiful Mind (2001), The Hours (2002), Game Change (2012), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022).
