Even the toughest cowboys listen to their mamas. Here’s what some of the competitors and attendees of the 2025 Cinch USTRC National Finals of Team Roping had to say on this year’s Mother’s Day.
Against the harsh reality of the Wild West, the matriarch stands strong, protecting and uplifting her family from the storm. It takes one heck of a woman to raise a cowboy or cowgirl, so this Mother’s Day, we’re letting those cowboys and cowgirls thank their mamas for the valuable advice and constant support.
We ventured over to Cowtown to attend the 36th Cinch USTRC (United States Team Roping Championships) National Finals of Team Roping to watch the best of the best compete at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. With teamwork and grit on full display, we thought it only natural to ask some of the cowboys and cowgirls in attendance about the woman who no-doubt gave them the skills necessary to succeed in the livestock industry. Check out what they thanked their mamas for, and head on over to our social media to let us know what you’re thanking your mama for this Mother’s Day.
“Love and forgive your enemies, always stand on top of things, and never procrastinate.”
Riley O’Neal stood outside of the Will Rogers Memorial Center with Gunner, his livestock friend. The longhorn opened his mouth and gave an adamant “MOOOOOO” each time O’Neal opened his mouth to share more, agreeing with his cowboy as he praised his mom. “Ever since I was young, my mom would always take me out to her cattle ranch,” he said, attributing his life in the livestock industry to her. When asked what valuable lesson his mother taught him, he said, “Love and forgive your enemies, always stand on top of things, and never procrastinate.”
“Thank you, mom, for always being my biggest supporter and having my back all the time.”
Katie Smith of JX2 Productions took a break from making the National Finals of Team Roping run smoothly to thank her mother for her constant support. In much the same way that many rodeo attendees forget to thank those behind the scenes, mothers often take on the thankless behind-the-scenes jobs that keep the world turning.
“Happy Mother’s Day, mom. Thank you for everything.”
Cowgirl and beauty guru Kenzie Jo Wright stopped by to talk with C&I about her appreciation for her mother. A cowgirl is nothing without her confidence, and that confidence has got to come from somewhere. In a world that wants to break you down, a mother is there to build you up as you navigate the challenges that come your way.
“Thank you for taking me everywhere, hauling me to all these ropings and stuff. Happy Mother’s Day.”
Fifteen-year-old team roper Weston Baucom acknowledged the role his mother has played in his already illustrious team roping career. He thanked his mother for supporting him on his rodeo journey by transporting him from one roping to another. The road to success can be hard to travel alone, and having a mama by your side on the trek can be a game changer.
“Hey, mom. I just wanted to wish you a happy Mother’s Day. I love you.”
Cowboy Jacob Nichter gave the perfect top-off to our Mother’s Day excursion through Fort Worth by offering a short and sweet shoutout to the woman who made him the man he is today.
