The official announcement of the alliance was appropriately timed for The National Day of the Cowboy.
Free Rein Coffee Company has chosen the National Day of the Cowboy to announce its alliance with a real-life cowboy — who also plays a cowboy on TV. Yellowstone star and C&I reader favorite Forrie J. Smith has signed on as the company’s Chief Cowboy Officer.
According to a Free Rein spokesperson: “Renowned for his role as Lloyd Pierce in [Yellowstone], Forrie embodies the rugged spirit and authenticity that Free Rein stands for. His lifelong dedication as a cowboy — not just on set, in real life too! — and passion for quality coffee makes him the perfect ambassador for the brand. As Chief Cowboy Officer, Forrie will bring his expertise and enthusiasm to Free Rein, sharing his love for the outdoors and great cowboy knowledge he’s learned growing up on a ranch in Montana!”
Smith will join fellow Yellowstone star and Free Rein founder Cole Hauser, a.k.a. Rip Wheeler, “to celebrate the enduring cowboy spirit and the rich, bold flavors of the coffee. The cowboy duo are on set in Montana now shooting the final season of Yellowstone — and we know they are waking up with great coffee and the Free Rein ‘Get Up & Get After It’ spirit.”

Free Rein co-founder Paul Anderson added: “We are honored to have Forrie join us and be a part of the Free Rein team as Chief Cowboy Officer. His work ethic and dedication to veterans align perfectly with the core of our mission: To serve those who serve and Get Up and Get After It!”
During his recent taste-comparison roundup of coffees associated with Yellowstone, our senior editor Hunter Hauk singled out Free Rein’s Branded Spice Roast for special praise: “This is an experiential, enjoy-it coffee, balanced and flavorful.”
