The first feature-length biopic about the 40th U.S. President opens Aug. 30.
Call it Ronald Reagan’s comeback, and you won’t be far off the mark. The distributor of Reagan, director Sean McNamara’s celebratory biopic about the iconic movie star turned U.S. President, has released the first trailer for the film, which features Dennis Quaid in the title role and is set for an Aug. 30 theatrical release.
“I’ve always been told bits and pieces of the stories of Ronald Reagan’s life,” Quaid says, “but this movie puts the whole story together. I’ve played quite a few real people over the years, and I like to play them from their point of view, without judgment. It was a big challenge for me to get behind the public persona of the man and also to move beyond my own feelings of admiration for him.”
From learning hard lessons during a small-town childhood, to savoring the glitter and glamor of Hollywood, and then rising to the occasion in the role of a lifetime — Commander in Chief — Reagan is a cinematic journey of overcoming the odds, told through the voice of Viktor Petrovich, a former KGB agent whose life becomes inextricably linked with Ronald Reagan’s when Reagan first catches the Soviets’ attention as an actor in Hollywood.
Academy Award-winner Jon Voight plays Petrovich, joined by Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan; Mena Suvari as Jane Wyman, Reagan’s first wife; Lesley-Anne Down as British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; David Henrie as teenage Ronald Reagan; and Kevin Dillon as Warner Bros. studio chief Jack Warner.
Dennis Quaid described the challenges and rewards of playing Ronald Regan in our July 2022 cover story profile.
