Mark your calendar: The prestigious PBS performing arts showcase Great Performances has rounded up a passel of country music stars for George Jones: Still Playin’ Possum, a 90-minute concert tribute set to air Friday, Feb. 23, at 9 pm ET.
“I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair,” “The Race Is On,” “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” and other George Jones hits will be performed by Brad Paisley, Wynonna, Jelly Roll, Trace Adkins, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, Dierks Bentley, Sam Moore, Jamey Johnson, Uncle Kracker, Lorrie Morgan, Joe Nichols and other notables accompanied by a band of Nashville’s top players.
The concert, recorded April 25, 2023, at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, marked the tenth anniversary of Jones’ passing.
