The Mad Men and Fargo star has been cast opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the upcoming Paramount+ drama.
Looks like another star has been added to the Taylor Sheridan universe. Fresh from his recent run as a North Dakota county sheriff with a tyrannical attitude about law enforcement in Fargo, Jon Hamm has joined previously announced series stars Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore in Landman, the upcoming Paramount+ series now filming in and around Fort Worth.
Hamm will have what’s described as a recurring guest role as Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris (Thornton), the crisis manager for a major oil company.
It will be the latest entry on the already impressive list of credits for the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor, who first gained international recognition and acclaim for his nuanced portrayal of high-powered advertising executive Don Draper in the AMC series Mad Men (2007-2015). More recently, he has had continuing roles in the TV series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Good Omens and The Morning Show, and appeared in the movies Top Gun: Maverick, Baby Driver, the film version of the Broadway musical Mean Girls, and Confess, Fletch.
Landman was co-created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, and based on Boomtown, the well-received 11-part Texas Monthly podcast that was written and hosted by Wallace. According to Paramount, the series “is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West-Texas and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires that are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
Co-stars include Michelle Randolph of Sheridan’s 1923, who’ll play Ainsley Norris, Tommy’s wild and strong-willed 17-year-old daughter; and Jacob Lofland (12 Mighty Orphans) as Cooper Norris, who’s still accustoming himself to the demanding work in the oil and gas fields of West Texas.
Rounding out the cast: Ali Larter (The Last Victim), Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia).
