Looks like Tuesday really is Good News Day: C&I reader favorites Reservation Dogs and Justified: City Primeval were mentioned multiple times this morning during the official announcement of Television Nominees for the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards. And current C&I cover guy David Oyelowo — star of the hit Paramount+ Western Lawmen: Bass Reeves — was among the honorees in the Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television category.
Reservation Dogs, the acclaimed FX/Hulu comedy-drama about restless Indigenous teen-agers in rural Oklahoma, received four nominations: Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series (D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), Best Actress in a Comedy Series (Devery Jacobs), and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Paulina Alexis, pictured above with Woon-A-Tai).
Timothy Olyphant was acknowledged among the Best Actor in a Drama Series contenders for his repeat performance as Stetson-wearing lawmen Raylan Givens in Justified: City Primeval, a sequel to the 2010-15 series inspired by the works of Elmore Leonard. The new series also landed a Best Actress in a Drama Series nomination for Aunjanue Ellis, who played high-powered defense attorney Carolyn Wilder.

Oyelowo was nominated for his charismatically intense portrayal of the legendary Bass Reeves, the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal to operate west of the Mississippi. Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which will conclude its limited run Dec. 17, has set a new record as Paramount+’s most watched global series premiere of 2023, with the first two episodes averaging an audience of over 7.5 million during their first 7 days across Paramount+ and a broadcast sampling run on CBS.
