The Tombstone star will join his son Wyatt Russell in the upcoming Apple+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Wyatt Earp vs. Godzilla? Not quite. But Tombstone star and C&I reader favorite Kurt Russell will be sharing the screen with Big G and a host of other humongous creatures in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a ten-episode series coming soon from Apple TV+.
Also on board: Wyatt Russell, Kurt’s son, who will be playing a younger version of the character portrayed by his father in the sci-fi drama that is set in the same “Monsterverse” as Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and the forthcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
What’s it all about? According to Apple TV+: “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”
Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski also appear in the series, which was co-developed by Chris Black (Severance, Star Trek: Enterprise), and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye). Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is director of the first two episodes.
But the question remains: Will Godzilla be everybody’s huckleberry?
