The “countrified” cut comes from the forthcoming album Almost Time.
Almost Time, the eagerly awaited new album from country artists John Surge and The Haymakers, won’t be released on the Blackbird Record Label until Sept. 15. But we’ve already been given a tempting taste of what’s in store for us with the music video for “Big Train,” an irresistibly twangy cut eminently suitable for toe-tapping, boot-scooting and/or plain old blissful listening.
“Big Train,” Surge says, “is a cover of a Chip Kinman/Tony Kinman song they recorded with their post Rank and File projects Blackbird and the western duo Cowboy Nation. We countrified the song, and then I invited Chip to play on it — and we wound up doing a duet while he added harmonica and guitar. Rank and File is a big influence for me, and I love honoring bands that mean a lot to me.”
Here is the music video for “Big Train.” The cut will be available Aug. 25 wherever you purchase music.
