The Yellowstone star will reprise his role in the 2017 drama Wind River.
C&I reader favorite Gil Birmingham is returning to the scene of the crime for Wind River: The Next Chapter, the upcoming sequel to the C&I Movie Award-winning drama Wind River.
The Yellowstone star is reprising his role as Martin Hanson, father of the young woman whose death near Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation sparked a manhunt in the previous film. Chief among those pursuing the men responsible for the woman’s demise: Hanson’s friend Corey Lambert, a veteran hunter played by Jeremy Renner.
In the sequel, Hanson’s son Chip — now a newly minted tracker for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — is called upon to help solve a series of grisly ritualistic murders on the reservation. Martin Sensmeier, who portrayed Chip in the 2017 Wind River, also will be back for The Next Chapter.
Other recent additions to the cast of the sequel include Kali Reis of Catch the Fair One and HBO’s upcoming True Detective: Dark Country (co-starring Jodie Foster); Alan Ruck of Succession and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off; and Tatanka Means, who will soon be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Kevin Costner’s Horizon, An American Saga.
They join previously announced cast members Sensmeier, Chaske Spencer, Scott Eastwood and Jason Clarke.
Directed by Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) from a screenplay credited to Patrick Massett and John Zinman (Friday Night Lights), Wind River: The Next Chapter is now shooting on location in Calgary. No word yet on what if any involvement Taylor Sheridan, writer and director of the 2017 film, will have with the sequel.
