The boldly stylish biopic dominated the voting by C&I readers.
C&I readers have cast their ballots for a tribute to The King. Elvis, director Baz Luhrmann’s stylistically audacious biopic about legendary entertainer Elvis Presley, dominated the sixth annual C&I Movie Awards, with multiple-category wins for Best Picture, Best Director (Luhrmann), Best Actor (Austin Butler as Presley), Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hanks as Col. Tom Parker, Presley’s manipulative manager), and Best Screenplay (Luhrmann, Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner).
Only two other feature films cracked the winner’s circle: Prey, which picked up the Best Actress prize for Amber Midthunder as Naru, an 18th-century Comanche warrior who battles an extraterrestrial invader; and Murder at Yellowstone City, which earned the Best Supporting Actress award for Aimee Garcia as Isabel Santos, the overseer of saloon girls and protector of orphans in a Wild West community.
Winner of the C&I Movie Award for Best Documentary: Still Working from 9 to 5, Camille Hardman and Gary Lane’s commemorative look at the classic comedy starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton.
Here is a complete list of nominations for this year’s C&I Movie Awards. Winners (which appear in red) were chosen through online balloting that ended Wednesday, Feb. 15. Nominees were chosen by the Cowboys & Indians magazine staff.
