Producer Jon Favreau’s popular Star Wars spin-off kicks off Season 3 March 1 on Disney+.
The wait is over: The Mandalorian, the popular Space Western spun off from Star Wars, will return for Season 3 March 1 on Disney+.
Disney premiered a trailer for the Emmy Award-winning sci-fi action-adventure Monday evening during halftime of the NFL Super Wild Card matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And if you were rooting for the badly overmatched Buccaneers — well, you probably had more fun watching the Mandalorian highlights.
What’s in store for viewers during Season 3? According to Disney: “The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu [a.k.a. Baby Yoda]. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”
Jon Favreau — who also gave us Cowboys & Aliens — is back in the saddle as executive producer for the series. And right from the start, he’s been leaning hard into the Wild West influences. As he told ABC News, he was drawn to the image of the titular intergalactic bounty hunter “because it really hearkened back to the westerns and samurai films that had originally influenced [Star Wars creator George Lucas]. It’s a deconstructed version of Clint Eastwood as the Man With No Name. That’s a great, mysterious, fun character to see the world through.”
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, Amy Sedaris, Emily Swallow, Giancarlo Esposito — and Longmire veteran Katee Sackhoff. Directors of the eight-episode Season 3 cycle include Rick Famuyiwa, Rachel Morrison, Lee Isaac Chung, Carl Weathers, Peter Ramsey and Bryce Dallas Howard.
