C. Thomas Howell and Annabeth Gish also star in the drama now filming in and around Nashville.
Yellowstone star Forrie J. Smith isn’t spending much time out of the saddle during the midseason break for Taylor Sheridan’s popular Paramount Network drama. In fact, he’s signed on to play a retired bull rider in Ride, a contemporary crime drama set in the world of rodeo competitors now filming in and around Nashville.
Thomas Howell (The Outsiders, Red Dawn), an actor with quite a bit of real-life rodeo experience to his credit, stars as John Hawkins, a former bull rider who’s driven to extreme measures after his daughter is diagnosed with cancer. Desperate to raise money for her treatments, he collaborates on a money heist with his estranged son and rising bull rider, Peter (Jake Allyn, who also serves as the movie’s director). But the robbery results in a fatality, forcing them to seek help from Al (Smith), the oldest retired bull rider in the family.
Greatly complicating an already volatile situation: John’s wife Monica (Annabeth Gish of Mystic Pizza and The Haunting of Hill House) is the sheriff assigned to the case.
According to the Deadline entertainment website, Ride will be shooting during the coming weeks at locations including live rodeos, Nashville music venues and working ranches. The film already has a North American theatrical and home entertainment distribution deal with Well Go USA.
