Music from the new album “Homecoming” is pleasing to our ears and our eyes.
This long holiday weekend is a great time to catch up on new music by old favorites. And right now, we’re listening to some prime cuts from Homecoming, the latest album by The Randy Rogers Band.
We’re also watching some music videos inspired by Homecoming songs. One of our favorites: “Fast Car,” which was filmed at the world-renowned Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth, and features The Randy Rogers Band performing as a couple meets at the storied venue and starts to fall in love.
“I hope this video reminds fans of just how much fun it’s supposed to be to meet someone you really like, even if it’s at a bar,” says Randy Rogers. “The actors really captured those exciting, early moments of falling for each other.”
“Picture Frames” is another one we’ve been spending a lot of time with. Call us sentimental? Yes, we’ll cop to that: This one is a keeper. “‘Picture Frames’ is a song about all of us," says Randy, "and the memories we have made together through the years living on our walls and in our phones. I’ve been lucky enough to be on the road for the last 21 years and have made some damn fine memories.”
Of course, there’s also a downside to nostalgia. In “Nothing But Love Songs” we’re invited to contemplate the melancholy mood of a guy turning on his radio to distract himself from recent heartbreak, only to find… Well, take another look at the title. Recorded and written with Radney Foster, Randy calls this “a return to the origins of the Randy Rogers Band,” adding: “Homecoming is a renaissance orchestrated by Radney Foster. We went back to our roots working with Radney again as well as recording this record at two iconic studios [Dockside Studio in Maurice, La., and Cedar Creek Recording Studio in Austin] that produced some of our most successful music. Dance with the one that brought you.”
Finally, we defy you not to get a little misty-eyed — even if you’re not a Dallas Cowboys fan — as you see and hear “Heart for Just One Team.” “I wrote this song as a tribute to my late father,” Randy wrote on Facebook. “Like many kids out there, our bond was formed through sports. This is a true story of one of my fondest childhood memories. Hope y’all enjoy.”
Homecoming is now available wherever you buy and/or listen to music.
