Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stepped up to the microphone to croon with Kelly Clarkson on "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'" ... and sounded pretty good!
We realize that a lot of hard-working folks in the American West may not have much time to catch up on daytime TV. But you shouldn't miss this one.
Kelly Clarkson begins every episode of her daytime talk show with a performance of a cover song. The segment is lovingly dubbed "Kellyoke," and it's become one of the most talked-about aspects of Clarkson's popular program. There's a Youtube channel devoted to the daily performances, and an EP has even come out compiling the best musical moments of the series.
But it's not every day that one of Kelly's guests joins her for the opening performance. It's especially exciting when someone not known to sing publicly much gets brave and takes her on as a duet partner. So any mention of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson singing with Kelly Clarkson is going to pull us in. He's one of the most lovable and nimble movie stars today -- as well as a guaranteed boon at the box office for anything he's in.
What may be the most surprising detail about today's Johnson-Clarkson Kellyoke duet is the song choice: the late Loretta Lynn's "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin'" Clarkson does her signature belting to great effect, but Johnson clocks in with a perfectly pleasant baritone, and a reverent performance style worthy of Loretta's legacy. Who knew he was a fan and could pull off one of the greatest country classics of all time?
What's next for this guy? Broadway? If so, we're in.
