The first two episodes are available for free streaming on the CW website.
Now would be a great time to catch up with Walker: Independence, the new Western series airing on The CW. We’re already hooked on the show after just two episodes — both of which are ready for free streaming on the CW website. And yes, you guessed it: It is a prequel to the popular Walker series starring Jared Padalecki (pictured above with the Walker: Independence cast).
To prepare for your mini-binge, you might want to check out our interview with series star Katherine McNamara, who plays the lead role of Abby Walker — a character she describes as far more substantial as your garden variety damsel in distress as she survives and thrives in the Wild West town of Independence. “She is a woman who is coming to the West to start a life with her husband,” McNamara told C&I, “and ends up with nothing and no one — but having more agency than most women of that time had, and meeting men along the way who recognize that, and help foster that agency, and give her opportunities to start over and have a life that is truly her own. Which is something she never expected.”
We’ve also interviewed two series lead players: Matt Barr as Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue who’s quick with a quip and even quicker on the trigger, and becomes Abby’s unlikely ally; and Justin Johnson Cortez as Calian, an Apache tracker who ensures that Abby makes it to Independence in the first place, and keeps a protective eye out for her.
And while you’re binging, keep an eye out for scene-stealer Katie Findlay as Kate Carver, the undercover Pinkerton operative who’s keeping tabs on the shifty new sheriff (Greg Hovanessian) while working, quite convincingly, as a dancehall girl at the saloon. She, too, is not your father’s distressed damsel.
But wait, there's more: We have posted recaps for the premiere and second episodes, here and here. And we'll continue to post similar recaps as Walker: Independence continues to air at 9pm ET/8 pm CT on the CW. Here's a sneak peek at Episode 103, "Blood & Whiskey."
