Gabriel Byrne, Thomas Jane, Isaiah Mustafa, Richard Dreyfuss, Anna Camp and Nat Wolff star in the western set for a June 24 release.
Coming soon to a theater or streaming platform near you: Murder at Yellowstone City, an edgy western drama starring Gabriel Byrne (Miller’s Crossing, The Usual Suspects), Thomas Jane (The Expanse, Apache Junction), Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two, Shadowhunters), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Mr. Holland’s Opus), Anna Camp (pictured above), Nat Wolff (The Fault In Our Stars, The Stand), Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter), Emma Kenney (The Conners, Shameless) and Zach McGowan (Shameless, Black Sails). Produced and directed by Richard Gray, the independent production will be released on screens large and small June 24 by RLJE Films.
Set in 1882, the storyline centers on Cicero (Mustafa) a former slave who arrives in Yellowstone City, a desolate former boomtown now on the decline, looking for a place to call home. On that same day, however, a local prospector discovers gold – and is murdered. Sheriff James Ambrose (Gabriel Byrne) assumes the killer is the newcomer, because “he’s the only man who doesn’t know what I’ll do to him.” But as the mystery of the prospector’s murder deepens, and a clash between faith and the law threatens to tear the town apart, Thaddeus Murphy (Jane), the town’s new minister, and the straight-shooting Alice (Camp) must stand up to Sheriff Ambrose and bring the true culprit to justice.
Filmed on location on a site that was known as Yellowstone City in the 1860s, Murder at Yellowstone City is the first production to be shot on a new western backlot established by producer-director Gray in Montana.
“I’ve dreamed about the Wild West since I was a kid,” Gray said, “so to make this film with such a talented cast at our own western backlot in Montana is beyond my wildest dreams. It’s the first film ever shot at the Yellowstone Film Ranch. It’s a really special story – a thrilling western. I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
