She’s actually getting married outside in the snow in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but that doesn’t mean Jenny Tolman’s imagination couldn’t run wild for her new record.
The way that I like to describe this album is that half of it is very traditional “Jennyville” with the characters and the storytelling of the fictional town that Dave and I like to create in, and the other half of the album is sort of the “prequel” to Jennvyille. It’s a place full of crazy, lovable characters that came to be as to be as Dave and I started working together and began to fantasize this town that they all existed in.
The songs on Married in a Honky Tonk paved the sparkly brick road to this imaginary world. There are personal mementos that share certain life events, or growing pains, that led me to where I am today, being able to have a crazy little town of my own. There are also many nods toward my love for Dave and the evolution of our relationship, up to the point that we are now.
Many of these songs are also built for a live show. Touring has become a huge part of my life, especially after 2020, and I wanted to create an album that would reflect the fun that we love to have on the road. I think it comes at a beautiful time to not only share more Jennyville characters but also give the listener a peek behind the curtain into my real life.
