The Kentucky-born country artist is topping off a successful year with his own unique take on the Buck Owens holiday-themed classic.
You could say 2021 has been very, very good to JD Shelburne.
So far this year, the Kentucky-born country artist has opened for ZZ Top, drawn thousands to a hometown show that made national news, and resumed one of the music business’ busiest tour schedules.
But wait, there’s more: He also released what many are calling his best album to date — Straight from Kentucky, which People magazine hailed as “an all-encompassing look into the heart and soul of the kid that grew up on a tobacco farm loving country music.”
And now he’s topping it all off with the release of a Yuletide-appropriate single that is premiering exclusively on Cowboys & Indians: “Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy,” a rocking and rollicking feel-good number that’s guaranteed to get you and yours boot-scooting around the house this holiday season.
“I knew when going back into the studio to cut a Christmas song,” Shelburne told C&I, “I had to record something upbeat and vintage. ‘Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy’ is a Buck Owens classic from the 60’s — and, hands down, one of my favorite tracks around the holidays. The storyline along with the tempo just gets me right in the holiday spirit every single I time I hear it!
“When we tracked in the studio that day, I knew we had to make it our own version of the song, and I felt we did that. I am excited for all of my fans to hear my version of it!”
