The Booth Western Art Museum showcases the work of renowned artist Tucker Smith among other Western notables.
The Booth Western Art Museum, in Cartersville, Georgia, will be celebrating nature in a big way this fall! In fact, that is the title of an exhibition showcasing the work of Wyoming artist Tucker Smith. However, that description also applies to exhibitions featuring the art of fellow Wyoming artist Michael Poulsen, Texas-based photographer Graham Hobart, and Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey of Montana.
Tucker Smith has spent much of his life traversing the Wind River Mountains, observing wildlife living amidst spectacular landscapes. He paints field studies on-site and takes reference photos to be used back in the studio. This exhibition was organized by the National Wildlife Art Museum in Jackson Hole and features Tucker’s signature work, The Refuge, depicting the elk refuge near the museum.
Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey has forged a significant place for herself in the Western art world by creating a high-quality body of work, depicting subjects she knows well in a unique medium. Using French dye on silk with a heavy emphasis on bold colors she has attracted a significant following and collector base. Her exhibition, entitled Forever Glacier, includes renderings of all the mammals in call Glacier National Park.
Yellowstone National Park has been a source of fascination for Michael Poulsen since his family moved to Cody while he was young. When he heard a few long-time park rangers were mapping and naming major waterfalls in the backcountry, he knew he wanted to be involved. Since then, he has hiked or ridden on horseback many miles off the park’s main roads, to document falls that only a few people have ever seen.
Utilizing infrared technology, photographer and Zimbabwe native Graham Hobart created a photographic series that highlights the vast landscapes, diverse peoples and exotic animals of Africa. Utilizing this same technique Graham has also captured unique elements of the American West in an exhibition organized by the Booth, Out of Africa and Into the West.
All four exhibitions transport visitors to the West to enjoy the incredible scenery and amazing animals who live there. The Booth invites you to come help celebrate nature this fall!
