Singer-songwriter Waylon Payne debuts the music video for his track “After The Storm” exclusively with C&I.
The son of Willie Nelson’s late guitarist, Jody Payne, and Grammy Award-winning country singer Sammi Smith, rapidly emerging artist Waylon Payne is on the cusp of releasing his second album Blue Eyes, the Harlot, the Queer, the Pusher, & Me on September 11. With a track list of songs that details Payne’s missteps, the troubadour reflects on everything from drug addiction to the loss of his late mother, and more.
A standout includes the devastatingly impactful track “After The Storm,” an emotionally introspective ballad about Payne’s journey to acceptance and his reflections on the demons of his past.
“There is always a bittersweet respite following life’s turbulence,” says Payne on the inspiration for the track. “Mine came in the years that came after cleaning myself up. With a solid mind and an earnest heart, the ability to look back and see things clearly happens organically. This would be my prayer of thanks to the powers that be for the rescue.”
The video for “After The Storm” finds Payne at his best — just him and a guitar. Complemented with beautiful camera work, glowing backgrounds, and a nice mirror ball, Payne leads listeners through a moving and meaningful performance.
