INSP will offer six movies starring The Duke on July 4 weekend.
After scoring a success with The Duke Days of May, the INSP digital cable and satellite television channel plans to please John Wayne fans with a sequel: Truth Justice and The American Wayne, a series of six classic films scheduled to air during the July 4 weekend.
The lineup includes:
The Sons of Katie Elder — Wayne shares the screen with Dean Martin, Earl Holliman and Michael Anderson Jr. in a drama about brothers set on avenging the death of their mother. 8 pm ET July 3
El Dorado — Director Howard Hawks more or less recycles the plot of Rio Bravo as Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan lock horns with a land-grabbing rancher (Ed Asner). 8 pm ET July 4
Cahill U.S. Marshal — Wayne reunites with director Andrew V. McLaglen (The Undefeated, McLintock!) to play a widowed lawman whose impressionable sons (Gary Grimes, Clay O’Brien) fall under the influence of a notorious outlaw (George Kennedy). 2 pm ET July 5
Hellfighters — In this 1968 drama inspired by the real-life exploits of oil-well firefighter Red Adair, Wayne keeps his cool while taming blazes. 8 pm ET July 5
Rio Lobo — Howard Hawks’ second unofficial remake of Rio Lobo, with John Wayne cast as an ex-Union officer who joins forces with two former Confederate enemies (Jorge Rivero, Christopher Mitchum) to battle bad guys in post-Civil War Texas. 10:30 pm July 5
True Grit — Wayne won an Oscar for playing a bold-taking one-eyed fat man in this one. 1 am ET July 6
