C&I senior writer Joe Leydon will introduce screenings of both classic 1969 westerns at Houston’s Alamo Drafthouse.
Taking a cue from the cover story in our current issue, C&I senior writer Joe Leydon is joining forces with Houston’s Alamo Drafthouse to host two special Sunday screenings of films that loom large in our list of great 1969 westerns.
True Grit, the classic adventure (pictured above) starring John Wayne, Glen Campbell, Kim Darby and Robert Duvall, will be presented at 1:30 pm Nov. 24. One week later, at 12 noon Dec. 1, you can return to the Alamo for a screening of The Wild Bunch, Sam Peckinpah’s blood-and-thunder masterwork starring William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Ben Johnson and Warren Oates.
“Houston’s Alamo Drafthouse always is a great place to see any movie,” says Leydon, who’ll be on hand to introduce both H-Town screenings. “But considering the western motif of the theater’s lobby design, complete with posters of vintage shoot-‘em-ups, it’s an especially appropriate location for viewing these particular 1969 classics.”
You can order advance tickets for either or both of the screenings here and here.
