The trailer features an effective remix of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Country Road.”
Looks like John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) isn’t quite ready yet for the old rocking chair — even though that’s where we first see him in the latest trailer for Rambo: Last Blood. Truth to tell, he’d probably rather spend his twilight years riding horses and getting his cowboy on in Arizona. Unfortunately, it seems that he can never find a place far enough away from where he’s been.
In the trailer — which is potently underscored by a new remix of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Country Road” — Rambo warns: “I’ve lived in a world of death. I’ve watched people I loved die. Some fast, with a bullet. Some, not enough left to bury. All these years, I’ve kept my secrets. But the time has come to face my past. And if it comes looking for me — they will welcome death. I want them to know that death is coming and there is nothing they can do to stop it.”
Which, when you think about it, is pretty bold talk for a guy who was nearly killed off at the end of the original First Blood (1982).
As we reported in March, Rambo: Last Blood picks up several years after Rambo (2008), the previous entry in the franchise, to find our hero self-medicating himself with alcohol to cope with PTSD while living and working on an Arizona ranch. When Maria (Adriana Barraza), his friend and estate manager, informs him that her granddaughter (Yvette Montreal) has gone missing while trying to reconnect with her estranged father in Mexico, he pulls himself together and heads south of the border to find the young woman. Once there, however, Rambo finds himself up against the violent minions of a drug cartel ringleader (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) who, apparently, are fully capable of launching a full-out assault on an Arizona ranch.
Here is the new trailer for Rambo: Last Blood, which is scheduled for a Sept. 20 wide release.
