Keep cool and spend more time with backyard party guests with this light summer sipper.
Summer is in full swing and so are backyard parties where the goodies sizzle on the grill and light tipples keep guests cool. Instead of individual cocktails, why not try light punches that allow for more time with friends and family. Mattie’s Market Punch is one such potent batched sipper.

(Makes 60 ounces/12 – 15 servings)
16 ounces preferred London dry gin
8 ounces lemon juice
32 ounces punch mix (recipe follows)
4 ounces cold, sparkling water
Rosemary sprigs, grapefruit half wheels, and/or lemon wheels, garnishes (optional)
Add all ingredients, except garnish, to punch bowl. Stir for 15 seconds to combine.
Punch Mix
18 ounces filtered water
1½ ounces by volume Earl Grey dry, loose tea
2 large sprigs rosemary, coarsely chopped
10 ounces white sugar
14 ounces grapefruit juice (roughly 3 – 4 grapefruits)
2 ounces ginger juice (fresh ginger root, juiced)
Heat water to just below boil, take off heat, and then add in Earl Grey and rosemary. Stir occasionally. Allow to steep for 10 minutes and then strain off solids. Next, slowly mix in all sugar. Gently heat the liquid again if the sugar is not dissolving. After sugar has fully dissolved in the tea, allow mixture to cool to room temperature, and then add in grapefruit and ginger juice. Finally, stir to integrate. Lasts 10 days. Keep refrigerated.
