The country artist debuts his latest track, “Big Bear In The Sky,” exclusively with C&I.
The song: “Big Bear In The Sky” off of the forthcoming album, Close to Home, available on June 28 (Plowboy Records).
The artist: You may know Chuck Mead for co-founding the hugely popular ’90s alternative country group BR5-49. But the Kansas native’s solo career, which has led him to tour globally and make 137 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry stage, is as high-spirited and original.
About the song: “We can say it’s a psychedelic romp through the Mi’kmaq legend of the giant she-bear better known as the constellation Ursula Major,” Mead says. “It’s a little heavier music than what I’m known for, but it’s as if Johnny Horton was fronting the Sonics on a balcony stage while archers launch flaming arrows across the crowd.”
Why we like it: Recorded in Memphis at the legendary Sam Phillips Recording Studio, “Big Bear In The Sky” is a blend of new-wave surf rock, retro vocals, and captivating storytelling that pairs well with a beach and a cold beer.
