The country-rock singer debuts the lyrical video for her latest single, “If I Was a Cowboy.”
Artist: Singer-songwriter and newly inducted member of CMT's Next Women of Country, Stephanie Quayle.
Song: “If I Was a Cowboy.”
Songwriters: Grammy-nominated songwriters Nicolle Galyon and Ross Copperman, and Grammy-winner Shane McAnally.
For fans of: Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini.
What Quayle says about the video: “This video shoot just kind of happened. We were at our farm [Summerfield Farms] with a camera crew for another project and looked at the pasture and thought, We need a horse, a dress, and a drone — this is too breathtaking and magical not to capture for something down the road!” Quayle says. “As soon as we headed into the studio to record ‘If I Was a Cowboy,’ it was a no-brainer that we had to use this for the lyric video! I love how life has a way of preparing you for what’s next.”
Special moment: “We didn’t know if the horse would gallop up the hill. Her owner didn’t think she had it in her,” Quayle recalls. “I asked [the horse], ‘Just give me one shot …’ and one shot turned into many — she didn’t want to stop! There’s nothing like a horse’s heart. My favorite moment is at the end when the camera catches me thanking her.”
Why we like it: The video follows Quayle as she rides a horse through the open fields of her North Carolina property, Summerfield Farms — an idyllic 600-acre-plus working farm, market, and event space that Quayle owns and operates with her husband, David Couch.
Summerfield Farms produces 100 percent grass-fed and grass-finished beef, grows organic produce, and hosts weddings, special events, and workshops to promote healthy living.
Knowing the video was shot on Quayle’s land and having insight into her lifestyle makes “If I Was a Cowboy” that much more impactful.
