Canadian singer-songwriter Erin Mulcair gives an exclusive first listen to her debut album, Rise & Fall, out June 22.
Filled with instrumental twang and smooth, soulful vocals, the country-pop/indie-folk debut album Rise & Fall is a grand musical introduction to up-and-coming singer-songwriter Erin Mulcair.
Sonically robust and lyrically engaging, Rise & Fall delivers songs that reflect on life’s traumas and triumphs.
“Rise & Fall is an album about the ups and the downs of life,” says Mulcair. “Every song is a story and leads the listener on a journey. When I write songs I try and put myself into someone else’s world. This can be very healing when you see others struggling and you can’t change their circumstances, but you can tell their story. As you listen, you will hear the moments of grief, heartbreak, but also the discovery of the most true love you could ever find.”
Recorded during Mulcair’s maternity leave, the deeply personal album projects her life into music.
“After having my first baby, it felt like time started and I committed to stop waiting around to get this album recorded,” she says. “It has been a dream of mine for so long and I continually struggled with the concept that the songs weren’t yet ‘perfect.’ What I learned through recording it is that it is all about the process, not perfection. When you put your art down on paper at some point you have to let go. All I want is to reach some hearts and have you feel something when you hear it.”
Album highlights include the dreamy indie-pop love song and title track “Rise & Fall,” guitar-heavy “Mine,” the bubbly and groovy “Stars,” and the violin-driven “Little One.”
