All-American country singer Brinley Addington debuts his new track, “Those Kinds of Songs,” exclusively with C&I.
Best served with a cold beer and a brooding stare in a rugged bar outside of town, Nashville’s Brinley Addington’s new “Those Kinds of Songs” explores country music’s favorite theme: heartbreak.
“I love all kinds of country songs, but the sadder ones have always been my favorite,” says Addington. “I thought it would be fun to write a song that didn’t feel like a sad song but talked about heartbreak and not wanting to hear those kinds of songs when you’re out at the bar because you know what they do: They take you somewhere or make you think of someone, which is why I love them so much.”
The sulking country rock track ponders pain and misery but manages some resolution through the music. Though the lyrics confess heartbreak, the confident, upbeat instruments would say otherwise, making for an interesting portrayal of a traditionally sad subject.
“Those Kinds of Songs” is on Addington’s upcoming EP, Songs From a Bar, out April 20. Get an exclusive first listen below.
