Old Crow Medicine Show perform their hit “Tennessee Bound,” backstage at the Grand Ole Opry.
They’d eventually be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on September 17, 2013, but Old Crow Medicine Show were discovered by bluegrass legend Doc Watson playing outside of a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina.
In the almost two decades since those busking days, the Grammy-winning band has become a major influence on alt-country. Their music — a mix of old-time folk and bluegrass, played with punk rock energy on stage — has influenced the likes of Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, and Jason White.
In 2017, the bandmates followed up their ninth album, Remedy, which in 2014 reached No. 1 on the U.S. folk charts and No. 4 on country charts, with 50 Years of Blonde on Blonde, a tribute to Bob Dylan’s 1966 landmark album Blonde on Blonde.
