Travis Tritt performs “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive” live at the Grand Ole Opry.
Before Travis Tritt was playing sold-out shows and wowing fans with his energetic stage presence and long list of country hits, the Georgia native began his career playing in honky-tonks.
The start of his professional career began in 1989 when he signed with Warner Bros. Records; he would release seven studio albums and a greatest hits with the label before transferring to Columbia Records and eventually creating his own label, Post Oak Recordings. In total, Tritt has released more than 10 albums, received two Grammy Awards and four CMAs. He’s been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1992.
His 1990 debut album, Country Club, was an instant success. The album’s second single, “Help Me Hold On” became his first No. 1, while the album’s third and fifth singles, “I’m Gonna Be Somebody” and “Drift Off to Dream,” reached the Hot Country Singles & Tracks at No. 2 and No. 3.
It wasn’t until Tritt put out his seventh studio album, Down The Road, that he’d release the song that would arguably become his greatest hit: “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.”
The multitalented Tritt has appeared on the small screen in hit TV shows Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman; Touched by an Angel; and King of the Hill; his TV-movie credits include Follow Your Heart, Rio Diablo, and A Holiday for Love.
