Nicole Kidman co-stars in Sofia Coppola’s remake of the 1971 Clint Eastwood drama.
Focus Features has released a trailer for The Beguiled — director Sofia Coppola’s remake of Don Siegel’s 1971 gothic drama starring Clint Eastwood — and we must admit: We’re intrigued.
Colin Farrell steps into the lead role originally essayed by Eastwood, and he’s backed by an impressive supporting cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning. Like Siegel’s 1971 version, the new movie is based on Thomas Cullinan’s novel of the same name, and is set at a Virginia school for girls in 1864. Even as the Civil War rages, The Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies remains sheltered from the outside world — until the day a wounded Union soldier (Farrell) is discovered nearby and taken in. Nothing good comes of this.
The Beguiled is set to open June 23. Here’s a preview of what you can expect.
