The country crooner from Down Under makes a young fan’s dream come true.
We’re ending the week with an acoustic performance from the New Zealand-born, Australian-raised country music star Keith Urban. The multitalented singer-songwriter is currently on tour for his new record, Rio Cord. He’s been performing new and old favorites on the road, but his music hasn’t been the only highlight of the tour so far.
Urban, who recently wrapped up four seasons as an encouraging judge on American Idol, has been known to be a generous star. This past week, we got to see his down-to-earth nature when he turned one teenage girl’s dream into a reality. While performing in Edmonton, Canada, Urban asked audience members what they wanted to be when they grew up. Fourteen-year-old Hailey Benedict replied, “I want to be a singer-songwriter.” Urban proceeded to invite her on stage, where she performed an original in front of thousands.
To celebrate this act of kindness, our Opry performance of the week is a solo acoustic version of Urban’s Billboard Hot Country No. 1 hit “Without You,” performed on the night of his induction as a member.
Urban is currently finishing his overseas tour and will be back performing stateside starting October 6 at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. For other dates and tickets to performances along his tour, visit his website.
