In the January 2016 edition of Cowboys & Indians, we introduce you to six country, country-rock, or folk artists we think deserve your attention. Each artist has already made an impact on the music world, but we think they will come to even greater prominence as 2015 rolls into 2016.
At this point in time, though, these aren’t artists you are likely to hear on your local Top 40 modern country stations. Even with the surprise triumph of Chris Stapleton at the recent CMA Awards, independent artists with a maverick musical sensibility aren’t likely to be shoved in your face the way formulaic pop-country and bro-country will likely continue to be. So we want to help in any way we can — and what better way to do that than to hand-select a group of tunes we are sure you’ll devour quickly? Then, hopefully, you’ll go looking for more.
