The renewal was announced Friday on the series’ Facebook page.
We have some great news for Longmire fans: According to the showbiz trade paper Variety, Netflix will produce a fifth season of the modern-day western crime drama.
Based on the series of novels by Craig Johnson, Longmire aired for three seasons on the A&E cable network before being canceled — reportedly because the show appealed primarily to an older demographic — last year. That’s when Netflix stepped up to the plate and green-lit ten new episodes for a Season 4, which the streaming service premiered in September. Almost immediately after those episodes became available for viewing, Longmire fans began clamoring for a Season 5. Now it looks like they got their wish granted.
Variety reports: “The renewal announcement was made Friday on Longmire’s Facebook page with the message, ‘We’ve never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5.’”
Meanwhile, back at the ranch: We will continue our episode-by-episode overview of Longmire’s Season 4 this weekend with a look at Episode 402, "War Eagle." You can read about "Down By the River," the Season 4 premiere episode, here.
