Southwest Masterworks

DESCRIPTION

The Museum of Western Art is pleased to host Southwest Masterworks from Forsyth Galleries at Texas A&M University. The partnership exhibition will be on view March 5 through April 23, 2016.

The exhibition will feature masterpieces from the Bill and Irma Runyon Art Collection, which is the founding collection of Forsyth Galleries. The artwork will include artists of the West and Southwest such as Frank Reaugh, Irving Couse, and Nicolai Fechin. Several of these artists are among the founding members of the Taos Society of Artists.

Amanda Dyer, Assistant Director of University Art Galleries, Texas A&M University, stated, “We’re thrilled to be able to share the Runyon’s love of Western art and artists with this exhibition at the Museum of Western Art. The show is filled with the iconic imagery of the ‘Old West,’ including Native Americans, cowboys, and sweeping landscapes created by equally iconic turn-of-the-20th-century American artists.”

Stephanie Turnham, Executive Director of The Museum of Western Art, said, “We are so pleased with this opportunity to partner with Forsyth Galleries and the Texas A&M Foundation. In return for the generous loan of these pieces, Forsyth Galleries will be borrowing masterworks from the Museum of Western Art Collection in the fall. We want our collection to be viewed by all who visit, work or live on the A&M campus.”

The award-winning Museum is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville. For more information, please call the Museum at 830.896.2553.
