Museum of Western Art’s Annual Art Show and Sale

DESCRIPTION

The Museum of Western Art announces the date for its annual art sale and exhibition. “The party” will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016, and will feature events all day which will include a chuck wagon breakfast, a presentation by a prominent national park ranger, the art sale and silent auction, dinner, and dancing.

“The Party” is the major fundraiser for the award-winning Museum of Western Art which is designated as the number one tourist destination in Kerrville, according to TripAdvisor. Proceeds from the event go to support the Museum’s educational programs and operating expenses. They also help fund preservation and conservation projects.

This year’s event begins with an authentic chuck wagon breakfast and a program by Michael Donahue, “Death on a Hillside: the Anatomy of an American Myth.” Donahue is an award-winning artist, author, art professor and park ranger at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. In 2010, he led a two-day staff ride on the battlefield for North Dakota National Guard officers deploying to Afghanistan. His keynote speech showed 47 similarities between the Sioux Campaign of 1876 and the Middle East wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2013, National Public Radio chose him as one of the top historical interpreters in the country and broadcast a national interview with him.

After the presentation, guess will enjoy a preview of the art and refreshments. The art sale and silent auction begins at 5:00 p.m. The show includes over 40 artists and almost 120 works of fine art in oil, watercolor, bronze, and more. A delicious Hill Country dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m., with dancing afterward to The Almost Patsy Cline Band.

Bart Jones, Museum Board member and Chair of the event, said: “We are really looking forward to this fun day. We have been planning “The Party” since last year, and want everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to purchase original fine art. Our Museum is a great resource for the city and state; since its inception in 1983, the museum has been visited by people from all over the world who are drawn to the mystique of cowboy culture and the great American West. My wife Karen and I look forward to seeing everyone here at “The Party”.”
