IICOT Pow Wow of Champions

IICOT invites everyone of all nationalities, young and old, to attend this Magnificent celebration of Native American culture. The Oral Roberts University Mabee Center will come alive in a colorful expression of dance, drum music, and songs as Native American members throughout the nation gather to honor our veterans, strengthen, renew culture, and preserve a rich heritage with each other and the public. The drums and century old songs will reverberate in the dance arena Friday, August 12, 2016 when the dance begins at 6:00 with Gourd Dance, honoring veterans past and present. 8:00 pm marks the beginning of the pow wow sessions as the Eagle Staff and the United States Flag carried by Native American Color Guard lead the Grand Entry. The graceful steps of the dancers, the beat to which they move, and the beauty of individual dance clothes symbolize tribal affiliation and ancestry of dancers. It is a photographers' paradise, with the beautiful colors constantly flowing and circling in the dance arena to the rhythmic beat of drum and song. You will want to take a minute or an hour to shop at our Native American market, where some of North America's best Native artists and craftspeople will be show casing their work.. Fry bread, corn soup, Indian Tacos will also be available as well as many other tempting and tasty items. A souvenir program book that includes information on the different dance styles as well as other information will also be available for purchase. the doors will open at 5:00 pm Friday, August 12th dancing beginning at 6:00pm, Saturday, August 13th and Sunday August 14th doors open at 11:00 a.m. with dancing beginning at noon. The pow wow is a family event and is an alcohol and drub free event. There is Free Parking and easy access to the pow wow. Admission is $8 per person (5 yrs and under free), Seniors $7.00 each...weekend wrist band $15 per person.
