Boots & More
A top-notch store in Jackson
Some boots are made for walking, some for working, and some for just looking good. Jackson, Mississippi’s Boots & More is a 13,000-square-foot haven for boots of all kinds, with a wide selection of styles for men, women, and children. Owners Mike and Lisa Knight previously owned a sewing machine business, until the opportunity to buy their own boot retailer proved too exciting to pass up. “We had horses and both of us wore Western styles, so it was a good fit,” Lisa says.
The couple opened Boots & More in 1983 with a selection of work footwear and later expanded their inventory to include Western boot styles from several top manufacturers—including Lucchese, Justin, Tony Lama, and Dan Post—as well as fashions from Cowgirl Tuff Company, Cruel Girl, Wrangler, and Southern Thread. According to Lisa, a location change in 1993 led to yet another addition to the shelves: “We’re across the street from the Mississippi State Fairgrounds and the Kirk Fordice Equine Center, so we started carrying English riding boots from Ariat and others.”
While Boots & More has also expanded into tack, saddles, and other Western accessories, it’s the service-oriented atmosphere and the personalized attention that accompanies each boot purchase that have fueled the company’s success and expansion into a second location in Florence, Mississippi. “We hope our friendliness is something that differentiates us from other stores,” Lisa says.
Search for Boots & More online and you’ll be directed to a site called Top Notch Boots, which might sound confusing, but Lisa believes the moniker is an apt description of why their business has thrived: “It indicates that the boots we carry are of the very best quality.”
