TV Recap: 'Justified' Season 4, Episode 3
There's no "or" when it comes to the truth in this week's Justified. You are either in or out, and if you are under any kind of illusion about where your allegiences lie then you're in for a world of hurt. Episode three is already upping the ante, and if you can't go all-in then you probably should get out of Harlan.
"Truth or Consequences" clears up some of the mud leftover from episodes 1 and 2, but if you were an MMA fan drooling at the thought of Randall (Robert Baker) becoming a recurring character, don't get your hopes up. When Lindsey's ex ex-husband (and former grifting partner, it turns out) runs afoul of Raylan (Timothy Oliphant), it becomes less about a fugitive hunt and more about Lindsey facing up to the consequences of her lies. Randall is a mean cuss, though, and we can't help but wonder why he doesn't go pro. Raylan might have to bring backup if it comes down to the mano-a-mano. If it does, it'll be a fight worthy of Don King (and why does the fictional Harlan have three boxing gyms? Bit of overkill, there).
The lies just get deeper and deeper as Raylan and crew unearth Drew Thompson's ex-wife Eve Munro (Julia Campbell), who seems to be quite in the dark for someone claiming to be psychic. Could there be more to her than meets the eye? We may not get the chance to find out, since she goes missing from right under the U.S. marshal's nose. Personally, I would hate to be the guy who writes Raylan's performance review: No wonder his boss wants to retire.
Elsewhere, the faceoff between Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) and the new preacher in town comes to a head, but now that Boyd has peeked behind the curtain there's no question about how it will end — don't BS a BS'er, as the saying goes. Incidentally, Reverend Billy, the April issue of Cowboys & Indians is going to have a nice article about how to deal with rattlesnakes. Might want to read up on that a little more.
Although some of this season's threads are already getting snipped, there are still plenty of loose ends to tie up as we head into episode four next week. Where is the elusive Drew Thompson? Will Art really retire? And still no sign of Winona (or Constable Bob), but our expectations remain high. Stay tuned.
