From head-to-toe denim to corporate chic, there’s a fall fashion trend fit for any cowgirl.
As fall fashion hits a fever pitch, it’s Fort Worth’s time to shine. Stockyards Style recently held its inaugural Fall Fashion Showcase in the Fort Worth Stockyards, highlighting the latest fashion from Western brands and local storefronts alike. While the Western theme served as a foundation to the show, the looks spanned a diverse set of styles — from modern, corporate cowgirl chic to timeless ranchwear with a twist. The Fall Showcase displayed the versatility of Western fashion while driving home the influence of Fort Worth’s specific sense of style. Read on to discover fall fashion trends in the Western fashion space, just as the chill sets in here in Texas.
1. Radiant Rust
Shades of red have dominated the “pop of color” mood boards since 2023, but in Western fashion, we are shifting the color wheel to something more familiar — enter rust, the Western color of fall 2024. A natural hue that can be spotted across scenes of the ranch, rust is a color close to our hearts, and now, our wardrobes. Radiant shades of rust were featured on skirts, dresses, boots, and handbags — bringing a rich, warm touch to the classic neutral tones we’ve come to love. Rust coordinates with neutrals for a satisfying blend, and pops against denim and sage — there’s no wrong way to wear this quintessential color way.
2. Coat Couture
Sometimes, the coat is the outfit. Building on must-have basics, we’re seeing a call to minimalism without sacrificing exquisite style. Statement fur and leather slung haphazardly over a lace slip dress or white tee is a cool-girl essential, marrying closet basics with over-the-top, collector-quality outerwear. Whether you opt for a slick embroidered leather jacket or a luxe fur, this look hinges on individual style that doesn’t take itself too seriously. There was a definite call on the runway to cowgirls who love fine fashion without the fuss. Think Beth Dutton, on any given day!
3. Corporate Cowgirl
While remote offices thrive, chic office wear is having a renaissance. Tailored two-piece suits, boardroom-ready blazers, and bold, executive detailing ruled the runway, paired with classic Western accessories. Worn alongside these corporate-ready separates were crisply-shaped felt cowboy hats, silver buckles, refined leather handbags, and silk scarves. Fort Worth professional certainly has its own look, and the unapologetically-cowgirl accessories truly drove home the signature feel of the city on the runway to the streets of downtown.
4. Diverse Denim
Denim never goes out of style, especially on the Western runway. While denim is a non-negotiable cowgirl staple, brands are combining function with fashion, creating unique silhouettes from the iconic fabric. From mix-and-match jackets and pants, to fashion-forward dresses, and off-color suits, denim has many faces this fall. The idea that denim is a canvas reigns supreme as we see pins, broaches, patches, and customizable details soar. Whether your aim is to dress up in dependable Wranglers or go all-out in Fashion Week-worthy finery, today’s denim can take you to your destination.
5. Ranchwear Meets Streetwear
Fort Worth has no shortage of tried-and-true ranchwear, from the perfect-fitting denim jeans to pearl snaps and canvas coats. In the spirit of creative fashion, we saw ranchwear playfully mixed with fashion-forward accessories, such as handbags, fashion hats, silk scarves, and turquoise jewelry. The mix of rugged and refined plays well together, creating a laid back style that is the essence of Fort Worth. This look can be achieved by simply wearing your go-to ranchwear in an intentional way, mixing in fine jewelry and tasteful accessories along the way. Authentic cowgirl style has its place on international runways, all the more in the heart of Fort Worth.
