Let’s all join together to wish the great Willie Nelson a happy birthday. He turns 90 this week … and the damnedest thing is that he still works harder than all of us. Puts us all to shame, in fact.
In the last decade, the Texas country legend has released albums of new recordings every year – sometimes more than one. They’re all solid, too; it’s never not enjoyable to hit play on part-nostalgic, part-experimental collections featuring the songs and artists Willie holds dear. In these delicately interpreted standards and carefully thought-out duets with contemporaries, he slowly unveils a picture of a life well-examined and even better lived.
