The hit AMC series starring C&I reader favorite Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon has attracted an appreciative audience.
If you play the lottery, you might consider picking 2 as one of today’s lucky numbers. Consider: On this day in 2022, AMC announced that Dark Winds has been picked up for Season 2 — after only two episodes have aired on the cable channel.
“This once-in-a-lifetime creative team and cast have delivered something truly special with Dark Winds,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We can’t wait to share the rest of this thrill ride of a first season with the fans and follow Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee into a second season on AMC and AMC+ next year. Overwhelming gratitude to our entire production team and a special thanks to executive producers Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre and of course Zahn McClarnon, who also leads the cast and brings humanity, authority and the wisdom of richly lived experiences to everything he does.”
C&I reader favorite Zahn McClarnon plays Lt. Joe Leaphorn in Dark Winds, which is based on the mystery novels of Tony Hillerman, and co-stars Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee and Jessica Matten as Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito. During the current run of Season 1 episodes, set in 1971, the three Navjao Police officers are investigating a double murder at a motel near their remote corner of Navajo Nation — and tracing clues that may link the killings to an armored car robbery in Gallup, N.M.
According to published reports, the June 12 series premiere episode of Dark Winds ranks as the No. 5 cable drama of the current TV season, and has drawn 2.2 million viewers with three days of delayed viewing. The series is running concurrently on AMC+, and ranks as the No. 1 series launch in the streaming service’s history.
